چکیده

of the Abstract: There certainly can be! Abstract: The phenomenology of Do-B’ mixing and of CP violation in D decays is described. Semiquantitative predictions based on the Standard Model are given on the possible strength of these phenomena. It is pointed out that New Physics beyond the Standard Model would probably enhance these phenomena in quite a significant way. To justify a New Initiative one has to be able to probe Do-D’ mixing down to r~= 10e4 (or better) and CP asymmetries down to 1 % (or better). It is of obvious benefit for such searches if one is able to track the proper time evolution of these decays by locating the decay vertices. Yet this can hardly be achieved if one uses e+eannihilation operating in the charm threshold region. It is discussed in some detail how the same kind of dynamical information can be obtained even without visible decay vertices, namely by employing Dfs decay correlations in a judicious fashion. Mixing and CP Violation in Neutral D-meson Decays

D0−D̄0 mixing at the detectable level or significant CP violation in the charm system may strongly signify the existence of new physics. In view of the large discovery potential associated with the fixed target experiments, the B-meson factories and the τ -charm factories, we make a further study of the phenomenology of D0 − D̄0 mixing and CP violation in neutral D-meson decays. The generic formu...

Time-dependent CP asymmetries in charm decays

The CKM paradigm has been tested thoroughly over the last 40 years in both the neutral K and B systems. The recent discovery of neutral charm meson mixing has prompted the search for CP violation in D decays. We discuss the prospects of performing time-dependent CP asymmetry measurements at facilities either taking data or under construction. Such measurements can (i) provide precision determin...

Experimental Prospects for Cp Violation in Charm

Experimental sensitivity to CP violation in charm decay is beginning to approach the interesting regime (∼ 10) in which new physics may be manifest. In the early years of the 21st century, if the technical challenges can be met, the proposed BTeV experiment should have the best sensitivity for rare effects both in charm and in beauty. 1 Charm CP Violation in the Standard Model and Beyond The St...

Charm2000: a >10 8 -charm Experiment for the Turn of the Millennium *

I discuss the physics reach of a fixed-target charm experiment which can reconstruct >10 charm decays, three orders of magnitude beyond the largest extant sample. Such an experiment may run at Fermilab shortly after the Year 2000. In addition to “programmatic” charm physics such as spectroscopy, lifetimes, and tests of QCD, this “Charm2000” experiment will have significant sensitivity to new ph...
